Questions :

  1. Quel pourcentage de salariés pratique le télétravail ?

    • A. ☐ 20%

    • B. ☐ 38%

    • C. ☐ 50%

  2. Les centres-villes sont affectés parce que :

    • A. ☐ Il y a plus de clients qu'avant

    • B. ☐ Les employés ne viennent plus tous les jours

    • C. ☐ Les commerces ferment définitivement

  3. Un aspect positif du télétravail mentionné est :

    • A. ☐ L'augmentation du nombre de voyageurs

    • B. ☐ La réduction de la pollution

    • C. ☐ La fermeture des espaces de coworking

  4. Les quartiers résidentiels :

    • A. ☐ Voient leurs commerces se développer

    • B. ☐ Perdent leurs habitants

    • C. ☐ N'ont pas de changements

Answer Key and Explanations:

  1. Answer B: The article specifies "38% of employees work remotely"

  2. Answer B: The text explains that employees prefer coworking spaces in their neighborhoods rather than coming downtown

  3. Answer B: "which reduces pollution and improves air quality"

  4. Answer A: "local cafés, bakeries, and supermarkets are experiencing real growth"

Practice Test B2 Level: Argumentative Text

Answer Key and Explanations:

  1. Answer C: The author first presents arguments against ("Supporters of the ban"), then those in favor ("Conversely, homework defenders"), before proposing a compromise

  2. Answer A: "homework increases social inequalities: not all children benefit from the same parental support"

  3. Answer B: "it develops autonomy and perseverance"

  4. Answer C: "limiting homework duration" and "offering free homework help" show a balanced approach

Winning Strategies for Reading Comprehension

Preparing for the DELF reading comprehension section requires both the right techniques and consistent practice. Here are the most effective strategies to maximise your score.

Before the Exam

Good preparation starts well before exam day. Here are the key habits to develop in the weeks leading up to your DELF reading comprehension test.

1. Diversify Your Daily Reading

Read regularly different types of documents: newspaper articles (Le Monde, Le Figaro), magazines (Phosphore, Géo Ado for B1), blogs, tourist brochures, recipes (Marmiton, 750g), classified ads. Vary themes: society, culture, environment, health, technology.

2. Build Thematic Vocabulary

Create theme-based flashcards with essential vocabulary. For example:

  • Housing: loyer, charges, bail, locataire, propriétaire, superficie

  • Employment : CV, entretien, candidature, compétences, expérience professionnelle

  • Health : rendez-vous, symptômes, ordonnance, médicament, consultation

3.Familiarize Yourself with the Format

Download official exam samples from France Éducation International's website and practice in real conditions with a timer.

During the Exam

Once you're in the exam room, strategy and time management are everything. Here's how to approach the DELF reading comprehension section on the day.

1. Manage Your Time Effectively

Allocate your time carefully across each exercise:

  • DELF A2 (30 min): approximately 7-8 minutes per exercise

  • DELF B1 (45 min): approximately 15 minutes per exercise

  • DELF B2 (60 min): approximately 20 minutes per exercise

Start with the exercise that seems easiest to build confidence.

2. Read Strategically

Always approach each document in three steps:

  • First reading: Read the questions first to know what information to look for

  • Second reading: Read the document while underlining or circling keywords

  • Third reading: Check your answers before moving to the next exercise

3. Identify Keywords and Logical Connectors

Connectors help you understand text structure:

  • Opposition : mais, cependant, en revanche, au contraire

  • Addition : de plus, ensuite, également, par ailleurs

  • Cause : parce que, car, en raison de, grâce à

  • Conséquence : donc, ainsi, par conséquent, c'est pourquoi

4. Watch Out for Classic Traps

The DELF reading comprehension exam contains several recurring traps that catch many candidates off guard:

  • Paraphrasing: The correct answer often uses synonyms rather than exact words from the text

  • Distractors: Some options contain words from the text but give false information

  • Details vs. main idea: Distinguish between what is explicitly stated and what is implied

Specific Techniques by Question Type

Different question formats require different approaches. Here's how to tackle each type effectively.

For True/False/Not Given Questions

This question type appears mainly in DELF A2 and B1. Here's how to approach it:

  • True: Information is clearly present in the text

  • False: The text says the opposite

  • Not Given: Information is not mentioned (even if it seems logical)

For Multiple Choice Questions

This is the main format at all levels, and the only format at DELF B2:

  • First eliminate obviously wrong options

  • Reread the relevant part of the text before making your final choice

  • Don't look for traps where there are none: the simplest answer is often correct

For Matching Questions (linking information)

This question type appears mainly in DELF A2:

  • Handle the most obvious matches first

  • Eliminate progressively to facilitate subsequent choices

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Even well-prepared candidates lose points on the DELF reading comprehension section due to these recurring mistakes. Make sure you avoid them.

  1. Translating word by word: Instead, try to understand the overall meaning before focusing on details

  2. Panicking over an unknown word: Use context to guess the general meaning

  3. Answering too quickly: Take time to reread the question and relevant text section

  4. Leaving questions unanswered: Even if unsure, attempt an answer (there are no negative points)

  5. Ignoring titles and subtitles: They give valuable clues about content
